Manila MBA Study Trip ’09

Apurbakanti Mukherjee shares the highlights of the 2009 NUS MBA Study Trip to Manila, the Philippines.

I came very close to not going on the Manila MBA study trip due to various reasons other options available, but I’m glad the way things played out in the end. There were some iconic names in the list of companies that we were scheduled to visit and some not so familiar names which later turned out to be the star attractions of the trip.

The Cast

The group consisted of 14 students representing 9 nationalities including some of our exchange students as well.

Monday

This was our 1st day of meetings and by the end of the week we all agreed, one of our favorites. Our 1st stop was at SGV, the local arm of Ernst and Young. After we met a number of their top managers, we waited for our lunch appointment with the 88 year old founder, Mr. Cecip Washington. While we waited in the plush room with panoramic views of the Manila skyline, we had, what was to be the 1st of many such photo ops. We were carrying with us a special banner made for this trip and at every chance, we would unfold the banner and take pictures with the whole group and the host.

The Dream Trip to America

Meeting Warren Buffet was a major highlight of the NUS Study Trip to America, 2008. Our NUS MBA student blogger recounts the experience of a lifetime.

The Dream Trip America has been a special study trip. We stepped outside Asia for a study trip for the first time in the 40 year history of the NUS Business School. The objective of the trip was to give the students an exposure to the western corporate world and to enable them to learn ‘best practices’ from top business leaders. A total of 23 people participated in this trip, majority of whom were from the MBA Programme.

The highlight of the trip was an appointment with Mr. Warren Buffett, the world’s richest man, for Q&A session and lunch. “Success can be measured by the number of people who are willing to hide you,” said Mr. Buffett, emphasizing on the importance of relationships and integrity. We asked some brilliant questions to get his views on his investment strategies and personal life. Post Q&A and lunch, Mr. Buffett posed for some really nice pictures with us. His humility compared to his success made him even greater than what we had thought about him.

Indonesia Study Trip – WOW!!!

nus mba study trip indonesia

Neha Gupta shares about an eventful 5-day NUS MBA Study Trip to Indonesia in 2007.

This is the first time I’m writing for the NUS MBA BUZZ blog. Wondering what made me write this – probably the experience that I had. I can’t resist sharing it.

I got to see a second country after spending 23 years in India and never thought that I’ll see a third one within next 3 months. It was a 5 day study trip to Indonesia, organised by the MBA office and an Indonesian senior, just before the mid terms. Sounds boring and risky? Actually it was just amazing and wonderful. Those who missed the trip, really missed a lot.

Meeting the master…attending Warren Buffet’s Berkshire’s AGM

berkshire agm 2007

NUS MBA student Tushar Kheterpal was selected to attend the Berkshire AGM 2007, and recounts his experience here.

“We would like to congratulate you on being selected to attend Warren Buffett’s AGM….” the opening-line of the email I received on an evening about 3 weeks back made me jump with excitement. I was selected along with 2 other of my MBA batch-mates to attend Berkshire Hathaway’s (A Warren Buffet Company) Annual General Meeting (AGM or Shareholder’s Meeting) in Omaha, USA.
