The NUS MBA

NUS MBA

Back to school…

Student blogger Marie Cheong talks about making the transition from work to starting an MBA program at the NUS Business School.

Hang on, a week ago I had a job and a nice paycheck…and today I’m back to school?

It’s hard to transition from the routine of a secure job to an intensive and challenging MBA program. Most of us moved to Singapore just over a month ago, some of us with spouses and families in tow, and are adjusting to our new city, coping with the hassles of finding a place to live and day to day logistics and discovering our own place in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Asia, if not the world.

It hits you hard – day one was a big shock! Our first three hour seminar was about getting our next job (but, I just quit my job?) and day two was straight into two, three hour lectures. Yes, lectures are three hours – that is three hours of solid concentration without trips to the water cooler or frequent tea breaks and chit chat with your colleagues.

A Good Year

NUS MBA student life

Student blogger Carissa Caparas shares the highlights of MBA student life as part of the 2011 NUS cohort.

Nope, this isn’t about Russell Crowe’s old rom-com movie nor is it about the Ohio-based rubber company. Just that the day just came when we passed the one-year mark. And so for what could be a penultimate if not final post, I turn pensive- why not indulge with some snippets down memory lane?

Student helping student…

When full-time MBA student Sindhura went to Cambodia for volunteer work with Room to Read, she brought a video with our stories and encouragement for the children.

Part 1 – Singapore

“How about visiting Cambodia during recess break? We’ve always wanted to visit Angkor Wat”, is what my husband said to me in early January. I was surprised to hear of vacation plans, because we had made plans twice the previous year and had to cancel in the last minute due to his work schedule. As a result of these experiences, I was arranging to spend the recess break in Laos volunteering for Room To Read (RTR), a non-profit organization I had been volunteering with since moving to Singapore.
