NUS Business School turns 50 this year and Global Alumni Network Office (GANO) has been commemorating this landmark event with our alumni at home and overseas. To that end, GANO organised alumni sessions in three major cities in India – New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Besides the GANO team, the Graduate Studies Office and Prof Nitin Pangarkar, Academic Director of the NUS MBA, headed to India to rally our alumni to join us in the three Alumni Homecoming Events to kick off the 50th Anniversary Celebrations. It was a great opportunity for our overseas alumni in those cities not only to reconnect but also to come together as a community to celebrate the School’s milestone birthday.
New Delhi and Mumbai
We kicked off the festivities in New Delhi on 24 February 2015 before going on to Mumbai on 27 February. Both events saw a collective turnout of over 50 alumni across different MBA and EMBA programmes. All were ready to partake in great food, rekindle old friendships and spark new ones.
The alumni community in both cities has grown significantly since the last gatherings and there were plenty of new faces, such as Arvinder Sehdeva (MSc Management of Technology 1995), Dr Tanmay Satpathy (PhD 2012), Divyesh Thakkar (MBA 2014), Soumya Venkat (MBA 2014) and Deepika Guglani (BBA 2012). Our MBA students, who were in India for a study trip, were equally eager to join in the fun as they mingled with the alumni and gained first-hand perspectives on India’s culture and corporate life.
Both events were truly an occasion to remember. News of the School’s success in the global rankings was met with cheers, and the 50th anniversary photo montage featured some familiar faces and brought back fond memories for the alumni of their experiences at the School. Fuelled by the warm camaraderie, everyone toasted to the future progress of the School.
These events would not have been a success without the help of Akshat Singh (MBA S3A 2011) and Shruti Dwivedi (BBA 2002), who took time out of their busy schedules to help us organise the New Delhi and Mumbai sessions respectively. A big thank you to them and everyone who turned up to make these gatherings a success!
The Bangalore celebratory dinner on 25 February 2015 proved to be an extra special occasion, complete with a poolside buffet dinner and a seminar presented by Mr T V Mohandas Pai, co-founder of Aarin Capital and Chairman of Manipal Education. Close to 100 participants, comprising a mix of alumni, MBA students, participants from our UCLA-NUS Executive MBA programme, led by Prof Kulwant Singh, and corporate guests turned up to take part in the celebration.
Mr Pai’s candid and articulate presentation was a highlight for many of the attendees. He spoke passionately on a number of topics including India’s progress, its emergence as a global player, Singapore-India industrial co-operation and his experiences as CFO at Infosys, a successful Indian MNC.
We extend our appreciation to our Bangalore Alumni Representatives – Rahul Tadimalla (MBA 2007), Vamsi Reddy (MBA 2008), Keerthi Aruvela (MBA 2008), Namrata Arora (MBA 2012) and Rishabh Mehrotra (MBA S3A 2014) – organisers not only of this event but of the past three successful alumni seminars, all of which featured high profile speakers. Speaking on behalf of the group, Rahul announced that they are working towards establishing a formal chapter in the city next year – great news for our overseas alumni in Bangalore!
The gathering served to bring the alumni community closer, with many alumni vowing to stay in touch and form new connections with the MBA and EMBA students. None of this would have been possible without the hard work of the alumni representatives in Bangalore – congratulations for pulling off another successful event!
