150 alumni, guests and staff attended the NUS Business School Eminent Business Alumni Award presentation ceremony on 22 July 2008. The formal event, held at St. Regis Hotel, saw Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Mr Lee Yi Shyan gracing the occasion as Guest-of-Honor.
“Tonight, we salute our alumni who enabled us to reach new heights – many of whom have also returned to serve NUS and our school,” said Professor Bernard Yeung, Dean of NUS Business School during his opening address. “The school is proud of its alumni and the awards is one way of saluting our illustrious alumni.”
“Many of the nominations came with outstanding achievements,” said Mr Peter Seah (BBA Hons 1968), Chairman of the Award Selection Committee. “Choosing the winners was a humbling experience.”
“It was an honor to have been on the selection committee,” said Mr Wong Ah Long (MBA 1972), CEO of DLF Trust Management Pte Ltd. “It was difficult to select a winner as many of the nominees were very good.” Mr Wong was part of the Award Selection Committee and was a past winner of the NUS Businesss School Eminent Business Alumni Award.
The evening saw the presentation of Eminent Business Alumni Award to four alumni.
Mr Ng Ser Miang (BBA Hons 1971), Chairman of NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd and Chairman of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee and Ms Veronica Eng (BBA Hons 1976), Partner of Permira Advisers Limited, UK were presented the awards in the Senior Alumni category.
In the Young Alumni category, Mr Adam Khoo (BBA Hons 1999), Executive Chairman of Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group Pte Ltd, and Mr Howie Lau (BBA 1993), Executive Director of Lenovo (Singapore) Pte Ltd were presented with the awards.
The evening also saw the presentation of the Special Service Award to two other alumni for their dedication and contributions to the school – Mr Peter Tay (BBA Hons 1975, MBA 1987), Managing Director of TPS Corporate Services Pte Ltd and Mr Yeo Keng Joon (MBA 1985), Managing Partner of Global Biotech Singapore.
“It’s a great evening – the atmosphere, the company and the speeches. It’s most inspiring!” said Ms Sun Jing (APEX-C MBA 1998), Senior Executive of Overseas Union Enterprise Limited.
Many of the guests thought the award winners deserved the accolades. “They are all industry leaders whose achievements are above the benchmark,” pointed out Mr Anand Agarwal (MBA 2005), Associate Director with UBS AG. “The winners have all made huge commitments to their organizations for so long. Resilient is a quality that describes them all.”
“I feel proud that our alumni have such achievements,” said Ms Tang An (APEX-C MBA 2000), Public Relations Officer of NUS Business School Mandarin Alumni.
